Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev – First President of Kazakhstan and Elbasy elected December 1, 1991, in the first nationwide elections. Nazarbayev’s personality marks an entire era in the nation’s history.

Every nation in its history strives to gain independence and an opportunity to pass its own course of development. At the beginning of the 1990s, Kazakhstan found itself in a difficult situation. Lack of clear prospects and economic and political collapse were first what our citizens faced in this difficult period. And how fast the country would overcome this turning point and would take its own steps to prosperity was contingent on the role and qualities of the First President.

Well-thought-out policies and personality of Elbasy turned Kazakhstan’s economy into one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. The personal contribution of the First President and his strong popular support became known globally as the “Kazakh model of development.” This model entails the gradual and firm development of the state according to a thorough course.

We have built good relations with all countries of the world and preserved peace in multinational Kazakhstan. OSCE chairmanship, hosting of the Asian Winter Games, implementation of industrial and innovation programme, development of Astana (Nur-Sultan), economic growth, successful organization of EXPO-2017 and the country’s standing in the international community are all important achievements made under the leadership of Kazakhstan’s First President and are bound to his name.

The Foundation of Nursultan Nazarbayev was established in 2000 at the personal initiative of Nursultan Nazarbayev. The Foundation is proud to make ideas of the President a reality meant to boost the competitiveness of human capital and develop a new generation of Kazakh citizens.
