Conference on the protection of the rights of the child was held in Almaty
Ensuring the rights of the child is one of the primary goals of our age. The development of any country and its future depends on the provision of children’s rights. There is no country for which the rights of the child would not be relevant. This fact suggests that the provision of the rights of the younger generation has global reach.
30 years ago, the Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted - this is the key document protecting the rights of children around the world. In honor of this event, the scientific-practical conference “Problems of provision and protection of the rights of the child under modern conditions” was held at Adilet Higher School of Law of Caspian University with support from the Foundation of the First President.
The main speakers of the event were the representative of Rodnik Public Foundation Diana Bakyt and Doctor of Law, University of Leicester Ph.D., associate professor of the Eurasian Technological University Khalida Azhigulova. The speakers presented future lawyers the problems in the field of legal protection of human rights, worker exploitation and other types of human trafficking, and also acquainted the audience with egregious examples of human trafficking, in particular, the sale of infants and cyberbulling.
In their reports, the conference participants - students of Kazakhstan universities - covered the role of civil society and the media in protection of the rights of the child, development and establishment of the institutes of the Human Rights Commissioner and the Children's Commissioner in Kazakhstan, prevention of violation of children’s rights. Special attention has been given to the issues of actualizing the fight against cyberbullying and bullying at schools, human rights education, strengthening activities against domestic violence, and many others.
— The conference allowed us to discuss the acute problems of the children’s rights institute, draw attention to legislative gaps in this area, and develop proposals for improvement of legislation. The issues of protecting the rights of the child under the conditions of globalization and government actions to implement the provisions of the Convention were also discussed, — noted member of the Science Council under the Elbasy Foundation, PhD in Law, Asel Kalimbekova.
