The smartest sociology students identified in Almaty
The XI Republican Subject Olympiad on Sociology among students took place in Almaty. The event, organized by the Department of Sociology and Social Work of the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science of the Kazakh National University, named after Al-Farabi, was held with the support of the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy.
Nine student teams from Almaty, Nur-Sultan, Karaganda, Uralsk and Turkestan took part in the competition in sociology. Future sociologists presented the following universities: Kazakh National University, named after Al-Farabi, Eurasian National University, named after L.N. Gumilyov, Karaganda State University, named after E.A. Buketov, West Kazakhstan State University, named after M. Utemisov, Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University, International Kazakh-Turkish University, named after H.A. Yassawi and the Military Institute of land force army.
The Olympiad consisted of three competitive stages. Participants presented video clips on the theme «My profession is my pride», presented research projects on specified topics and passed test tasks. Thus, the Olympiad allowed the contestants not only to demonstrate professional knowledge of sociology, but also to show general erudition, practical skills and sociological imagination.
- The XI Republican Student Olympiad in Sociology coincided with the Year of Youth in the country declared by the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev. For young sociologists, participation in the Olympiad is a unique opportunity to test their knowledge, broaden their social horizons and scientific imagination, learn to overcome competitive tests and demonstrate their abilities. I will add that participation in this event also places great responsibility on each participant representing their region and university, said Gulmira Abdiraimova the Chairperson of the Council for Science at the Foundation of the First President, head of the department of sociology and social work of the FPP of KazNU, named after Al-Farabi.
Students' speeches were evaluated according to such criteria as analysis and critical thinking, consistency of problem disclosure, scientific novelty and practical significance, communication skills, integrity of theoretical substantiation, presentation culture, etc.
As the chairman of the Olympiad jury, director of the Center for the Study of Public Opinion in Almaty Gulzhan Alimbekova, noted, sociology competitions among students contribute to the development of intellectual and creative activity of young people.
The Olympiad promotes the desire to realize itself in a particular area of scientific research, which allows young people to be in demand by society, and their success increases the competitiveness of Kazakhstan’s education, the expert concluded.
According to the results of all three rounds of the Olympiad, the team «Millennium» from the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi was the absolute champion. The second place was shared by the teams «Ideal generation» and «Paradigm», representing KazNWPU and KazNU, named after Al-Farabi respectively. Third place went to sociology students from ENU, named after L.N.Gumilyov, KarSU, named after E.A. Buketov and WKSU, named after M.Utemisov.
The team «Yasawi» from the International Kazakh-Turkish University, named after H.A. Yassawi was awarded an additional incentive from the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
